Thanksgiving dinner around Cinco Ranch: where to order, when to decide

2026-11-06 6 min read By Carol Jukes, Broker/Owner

Thanksgiving 2026 is Thursday, November 26, and the practical advice for Cinco Ranch families is to decide early: Local Table at Cinco Ranch Boulevard, the catering option closest to home, takes holiday orders with a November 22 cutoff and a Wednesday pickup; H-E-B, Kroger, and Whole Foods Katy run turkey and holiday-meal pre-orders; and Katy ISD is out the full week of November 23 to 27, which makes the Thanksgiving-morning Turkey Dash an easy family tradition before the meal.

Thanksgiving 2026 is Thursday, November 26, and in Cinco Ranch the meal planning starts in the first half of November, not the week of. Two dates anchor the week and both are settled: Katy ISD is out for the full Thanksgiving break from Monday, November 23 through Friday, November 27, and the Katy YMCAs run the 24th Annual Turkey Dash on Thanksgiving morning at the Monty Ballard YMCA at Cinco Ranch. A full school-free week is a gift for families, and it means the two things that book up fastest, catering orders and grocery turkey pre-orders, deserve attention now rather than after the weekend.

Lock in the dates: Thanksgiving is November 26

The holiday itself falls on Thursday, November 26 this year. The week around it is unusually tidy for Cinco Ranch families because school is out for all of it: the district's official 2026-27 instructional calendar lists the Thanksgiving break as Monday, November 23 through Friday, November 27. The morning anchor is the Turkey Dash, the community's long-standing Thanksgiving tradition, with a timed 10K and 5K, a kids' mile, and a family mile at the Monty Ballard YMCA on Westheimer Parkway, and online registration closing at 11:59 p.m. on November 25. Run it before the oven work begins and the rest of the day stays free for the meal.

The local catering cutoff: Local Table, Sunday, November 22

For a catered meal without leaving the community, the practical option closest to home is Local Table at 24033 Cinco Ranch Boulevard. The restaurant's holiday catering runs November 1 through December 31, with family feasts sized for about 4 or about 10 people: oven-roasted turkey, honey-glazed ham, cornbread stuffing, sides, and pies, and it asks for about 24 hours' notice. For Thanksgiving 2026 the official order cutoff is Sunday, November 22 at 2:00 p.m., with last pickup on Wednesday, November 25 by 7:00 p.m. Local Table is closed on Thanksgiving Day itself, so the meal arrives the day before and gets reheated or served chilled, depending on what you order.

  • The 2026 Thanksgiving order cutoff is Sunday, November 22 at 2:00 p.m.; the restaurant's official holiday-catering page, linked below, is where you place the order.
  • Last pickup is Wednesday, November 25 by 7:00 p.m. There is no Thanksgiving-Day pickup, because the restaurant is closed that day.
  • Family feasts serve about 4 or about 10; the team can add sides and pies if your guest list lands between those sizes.
  • The same catering window runs through December 31, so the ordering system also covers Christmas and New Year's meals.

The grocery game plan: pre-order the turkey or the whole meal

Every major grocery chain that serves the area runs a Thanksgiving program each November, and the practical ordering window is now, with pickup landing in the final days before the holiday. The stores closest to Cinco Ranch are the H-E-B at Katy Park on Morton Ranch Road, the H-E-B Katy Market on Nelson Way, and the H-E-B near Mason Road; the Kroger at Southpark at Cinco Ranch on Spring Green Boulevard; and Whole Foods Market Katy at 6601 South Fry Road. Whole Foods and H-E-B both publish holiday meal packages for pickup, and Kroger runs an annual Thanksgiving shop with turkeys, meal bundles, and desserts. Prices and order deadlines change every year, so check each store's current program instead of relying on any figure from a past season.

  • H-E-B: turkey pre-orders and holiday meals at the stores on Morton Ranch Road, Nelson Way, and Mason Road, with ordering through the H-E-B site.
  • Kroger: the Southpark at Cinco Ranch store on Spring Green Boulevard anchors the community's own retail center, and Kroger's holiday shop is online through its Thanksgiving page.
  • Whole Foods Market Katy: 6601 South Fry Road, with a full Thanksgiving catering menu including roasted and smoked turkey meals, hams, sides, and plant-based options, ordered online.

Bakeries and pies: who to call, and when

If you would rather buy dessert than bake it, a few Katy bakeries sit close enough to Cinco Ranch to be practical, and all of them work better with a call in advance during holiday weeks: Y&H Buttery Bakery on Pin Oak Road, just southwest of the community off the Grand Parkway; Southern Dough Baking Company on Avenue B in downtown Katy; and 85°C Bakery Cafe near the Grand Parkway and I-10 interchange. Holiday order windows, flavors, and pickup days vary by shop and by week, so ask each bakery what it is booking this season before relying on it. The grocery bakery counters make the dependable fallback, including the H-E-B bakery at Katy Market on Nelson Way.

Eating out on Thanksgiving Day

Most of the community's own restaurants close on Thanksgiving, Local Table included, so sitting down to dinner out usually means driving toward the Grand Parkway and I-10 corridor. A handful of Katy-area restaurants are open on the holiday in most years, Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar near the Grand Parkway among them, but holiday hours change from year to year and restaurant to restaurant. Call the specific restaurant or check its social pages in the week before rather than assuming, and book early if it takes reservations. If out-of-town family wants to walk off the meal, check Katy Mills' holiday hours on its events page instead of assuming the mall schedule.

What closes and what stays open

  • Katy ISD is closed Monday, November 23 through Friday, November 27, the full Thanksgiving week on the district's official 2026-27 calendar.
  • City of Katy offices are closed on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26; the city's calendar, linked below, is the place to confirm the holiday schedule.
  • Banks and the U.S. Postal Service follow the federal holiday and close on Thursday, November 26.
  • Grocery stores run shortened Thanksgiving hours, and a few close entirely. H-E-B traditionally opens for a morning window, and the 2026 hours are posted store by store, so check the one you plan to visit.

A practical order of operations

  • This week: if Local Table is your plan, place the order before Sunday, November 22 at 2:00 p.m.
  • By mid-month: book grocery turkey and meal pre-orders at H-E-B, Kroger, or Whole Foods, and pick a pickup time that fits your schedule.
  • Wednesday, November 25: the last day for most catering and grocery pickups, so the day before Thanksgiving is the squeeze point; choose the earliest window you can.
  • Thursday, November 26: the Turkey Dash on Westheimer Parkway if you registered, a closed city hall and post office, and a meal that is already in the fridge.
